Hyundai, the South-Korean automaker is all set to launch the new i30 premium hatchback namely, Fastback in the European market at the start of 2018 and it is speculated to see its light in the Indian market by the end of 2018.
After its launch, Hyundai will have three differently styled models in the i30 line-up. It has already launched the first two generation of the hatchback, i30 N and i30 Tourer for the European markets. Now, the third model of the i30 line-up is set to be released with a new body style.
According to the reports, the Hyundai i30 Fastback could be unveiled at the 2018 Auto Expo to see people’s response. However, a noteworthy fact is that the previous gen model was also showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo but was not launched in the Indian market. There is no official announcement of the new model to coming to India, but the launch is highly anticipated.
The increasing demand for the affordable hatchbacks in India has resulted into the arrival of many global products and moreover, India is a huge market for foreign automobiles. So, it is highly expected that Hyundai will try its luck in the Indian market with the new version of the model with a very competitive price tag.
Moreover, the recent launch of the facelifted version of Hyundai Verna has seen a good number of bookings, which may urge the company to have some high hopes for the Indian market. Hyundai is quite famous for manufacturing premium-looking cars in its class. The five-door model is designed on the Hyundai’s Fluidic 2.0 philosophy in order to have a sculpted body with a fine surface. The model is finely designed with a sleeker look to have a contemporary aesthetic. The front profile comes with a re-designed hexagonal cascading grille with chrome around, longer bonnet, new projector headlights with daytime running LED lamps. The side profile looks appealing with slashes and curves at the right places. The rear of the model is expected to have a new bumper with horizontal split tail-lamps and a larger boot space. The roof of the model is lowered by 25mm and the roofline is specially designed like a coupe to minimize air-resistance. Hyundai offers twelve different exterior shades for the upcoming model.
The interior of the premium hatchback will be furnished with higher quality material to have a premium look inside with all necessary convenience and comfort features. The seats and steering are wrapped in a fine quality leather with an aluminium finish at various places. It will be offering a completely new dashboard with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system featuring Apple CarPlay, connectivity options and the safety features include ABS, ESC, Traction Control, Airbags, etc. The passengers will get an optional audio system with a 5-inch LCD touchscreen. The vehicle comes packed with features like vehicle stability management and electronic stability control to assist better experience of driving. The legroom and headroom are praiseworthy, while the knee room offered is class leading, thanks to the larger wheel base. Other key features include dual-zone climate control and a panoramic sunroof, which allows natural sun rays to light the cabin. The gen-next i30 will be equipped with double-spoke 16-inch alloy wheels.
The Indian-spec model is expected to come in both diesel and petrol variants. The petrol version will feature a 3 cylinder 1.0-litre turbocharged engine and a 4 cylinder 1.4-litre T-GDI engine, which is expected to churn out a maximum power output of 118 bhp and 138 bhp respectively. On the other hand, the diesel variant will be powered by a 4-cylindrical 1.6-litre CRDi engine to produce maximum power in two states of tune- 109 bhp and 128 bhp. Both the engines will come mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard, while an option of a 7-speed automatic gearbox is also available. The fuel-efficiency of the petrol unit is expected to be around 17 kmpl, whereas the diesel unit will have a mileage of 21 kmpl.
The new i30 premium hatchback from the Korean car manufacturer is expected to be placed above the i20 hatchback in the company’s lineup and the estimated price range for the model is from Rs. 10 lakh to Rs.15 lakh (ex-showroom). It will be placed in-between Elantra and Verna in the company’s line-up. Once launched, it will rival the likes of Audi A3 Saloon and Mazda3 Fastback in the European market, while it may face stiff competition with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Baleno and others in the same price range.
